PRIVACY & SMS POLICIES

Terms & Conditions relating to the use of SMS (e.g. texting) services and the personal information you entrust to IPC, its officers, staff, and associates.

The Irvington Presbyterian Church (IPC) collects personal information from its officers, staff, members, volunteers, activity participants, regular visitors, guests, and program participants in varying depth of detail but always only to provide ongoing communication regarding the life and ministries of its programs and as a tool to serve the depth of responsibility each person has as part of the IPC community and to build on the initial relationship established between individuals and organizations and IPC. Unless explicitly noted in any data collection device, it is the intent of IPC to retain and to protect all personal information for its own promotional, financial, or communication purposes. IPC has not, nor does it ever intend to sell or otherwise distribute any personal or personally-identifiable information with third parties unless required by federal or state law. Highly-sensitive information (e.g. details required to run criminal background checks on staff, new officers, or volunteers serving vulnerable populations) is maintained with attention to preserving its confidentiality and safeguarding, maintaining physical copies only when necessary; destroying the details as soon as it is reasonable to do so; using the details for their intended purposes only; and maintaining all documentation behind at least two locked doors when at all possible. Financial information follows the policies of our Finance Committee and Manual of Operations, which maintain generally accepted methods of protecting those details independently of other personal information.

If you consent to receive SMS or text messages from IPC, you agree to receive occasional mass messages with news or emergency communications, as well as direct or small group messages sent directly from program leaders and staff. Messages are sent using a platform that records communications for the protection of all parties.

At any point, you may reply STOP to opt-out or HELP for ways to get assistance.

Message and data rates may apply. Messaging frequency may vary.

Visit this page to see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service; visit https://www.irvpresby.org to learn more or to contact IPC.

What personal information is collected by IPC and how is this information used?

IPC maintains contact information and personally-significant dates for the sake of maintaining contact, preserving membership records, and in service of supporting a community of Christian support and care. Members’ information may be shared with fellow members occasionally, but attempts to maintain individuals’ privacy are kept, and can be enforced at the request of the member. Donors’ information is maintained separately from their financial giving history and records and that data is preserved and maintained to meet our fiscal and legal obligations and is otherwise destroyed. Additional personal information may be requested of officers of the church and staff members to meet various other requirements relating to background checks, payroll and benefits enrollment, etc.. In these circumstances, that information is maintained only as long as is necessary and is then destroyed or deleted.

Who has access to this personal information?

Contact information is maintained in our congregation’s cloud-based database, which is accessible only to those who have been provided access, including staff members, financial service contractors, and office volunteers. Contact information that is shared in the church directory is available to officers, staff, and members who request a copy of the directory. Additional personal information requested of staff and for background checks is accessible only by the full-time staff, financial services contractors, and staff or volunteers overseeing the processing of background checks.

Note: Communication consent—including consent to communicate using text messaging or SMS—is not shared with third parties. Your consent is assumed to only apply to the activities, ministries, and programs that fall under the auspices of the Irvington Presbyterian Church, Inc.. Anyone presenting themselves as being related to IPC outside the established channels of communication used by IPC may be reported to the authorities and to the leadership of IPC.

By providing your contact information, you are consenting to receive communications unless otherwise explicitly noted by the data collection vehicle being used, or by written notice that you may send to IPC using the contact information found at https://www.irvpresby.org. Note that there may be circumstances where a request to terminate communications may be superseded by policies related to financial or legal matters (e.g. donation receipts).

How do you obtain consent to send text messages?

An SMS return message reading:

“By texting the Irvington Presbyterian Church (IPC) or its staff members, you are agreeing to receive communications from, or exchange conversational messages with, IPC or its staff and officers, relating to the programs and activities of IPC. Reply STOP to opt-out; HELP for support; message & data rates may apply; message frequency may vary. Visit https://www.irvpresby.org/privacy to see our privacy policy and terms of service.

An email sent to individuals stating: “Your message to IPC serves as consent to receive communications from, exchange conversational messages with, IPC or its staff and officers, relating to the programs and activities of IPC. At any point, you may send STOP to opt-out of further messaging; or HELP to receive more information. Message & data rates may apply to SMS. SMS and E-mail frequency may vary.
