Ministers Who Are We?

January 1, 1996 The Eastminster and Irvington Presbyterian Church congregations merged.
The name Irvington was retained as the name of the new congregation. The blending of our rich traditional heritages sustains our present endeavors and helps
us adapt to the needs of the future. "Upon the Rock of Ages Founded" is engraved
on the cornerstone of our building. These words guide us as we seek to serve as faithful
disciples of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. In 1928 the present Gothic structure was erected to meet the needs of a rapidly growing
membership. Restoration and renovation in 1986-87 further improved our physical
facilities. Building expansion, however, reflects only one kind of growth. Here at
Irvington Presbyterian Church, we are committed to a spiritual growth which will
"increase in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man." (Luke 2:52) We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Our government is representative, headed by laymen and laywomen elected by their fellow members. At Irvington Presbyterian Church, three boards of officers - elders, deacons, and trustees - function with the pastors to lead our congregation in its worship, mission, and ministry. Pastors, officers, and members alike seek to follow the pattern of Jesus Christ, who came "not to be served but to serve." (Matt. 20:28) |
